3-Year Playschool

Meet the Teachers…

Our three year Playschool program is taught by Mrs. Amy Ehrhardt and Mrs. Tracey Barrett.  This is Amy’s seventh year of teaching the threes.  Tracey has been assisting for the past two years.  Tracey also works in the daycare 4-year class as well as with the after school program.  Amy is a former public school teacher with Guilford County Schools.  She is a mother of four children, ranging in ages from 15-7.  Tracey is the mother of two teenagers.

Our Program…

Our 3-year program runs from September until the end of May and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9-12.  Currently we have eleven students.  Since 3-year Playschool is most children’s first experience in a structured program, our primary focus is socialization, teaching routine, and basic shapes and colors.  Each month we have a color and shape focus around which our activities revolve.  Beginning in January, we also start emphasizing numbers and introduce the children to scissors.  We have a weekly chapel time led by our daycare directors that teaches simple bible stories and lessons and usually includes singing.  We love and nurture each child while preparing him/her for the 4-year Playschool program.

4-Year Playschool

Meet the Teachers…

Our four year Playschool program is taught by Mrs. Amy Ehrhardt and Mrs. Tina Phillips.  This is Amy’s seventh year of teaching Playschool.  Tina has been assisting for the past five years.  Amy is a former public school teacher with Guilford County Schools.  She is a mother to four children, ranging in ages from 15 to 7.  Mrs. Tina graduated from UNC-G with a degree in biology and worked at LabCorp before becoming a full time stay at home mom to her daughter Reagan.

Our Program…

The four year program runs from September until the end of May and meets on Mondays and Fridays from 9-12 pm.  We meet on Wednesdays from 9-1 pm and the children stay for lunch.  Currently we have thirteen students.  Our primary goal for the 4-year program is to prepare the children to enter Kindergarten.  We focus extensively on letter recognition and letter sounds.  We spend one week on each letter of the alphabet.  We also have special celebrations for holidays such as a Pilgrim and Indian feast at Thanksgiving.  We believe that children learn through both play and experiences.  We take many field trips throughout the year to give children experiences they might not otherwise have.  This year we have visited a dairy, gone to the fire station, and taken an Amtrak train ride.  In the spring of the year, we do a series of swimming lessons through the YMCA.   Being a Christian preschool, we have a weekly chapel time taught by our pastors and daycare staff where children learn about various people in the bible and Christian concepts such as loving others, sharing, helping those in need, and sharing God’s love.  Additionally, we work on number recognition, calendar concepts, handwriting, and learning one’s name.  We try to love and nurture each child in this first school experience as he/she grows and develops.
